The Give Clean Water Way

The “Give Clean Water Way” is based on best practices for delivering a sustainable implementation of clean water to the world, along with a focus on Monitoring and Evaluation that tracks outcomes and behavior change.

Here are the steps:

  • 01. An assessment is carried out on local communities that lack access to clean drinking water, examining the contents of their water and marking each location with GPS coordinates.
  • 02. A distribution of Sawyer water filters aims to reduce waterborne illnesses caused by harmful bacteria. Each family receiving a water filter undergoes a baseline health and economic survey.
  • 03. A two-week follow-up visit and survey are conducted to monitor the daily use and maintenance of the water filters, visually inspect each household to ensure the filters are functioning properly, and track changes in health and economic savings.
  • 04. An 8-week follow-up visit and survey are conducted to monitor the daily use and maintenance of the water filters, visually inspect each household to ensure the filters are functioning properly, and track changes in health and economic savings.
  • 05. Monitoring of the dashboard is conducted to report on:
    • Reduction of diarrhea
    • Savings from purchased water
    • Medical savings associated with waterborne illnesses
    • Workdays regained by adults
    • School days regained by children
    • Incidence of cough, sore throat, and skin rash.
06. Regularly scheduled messaging to households is conducted via Push Messaging apps and social media groups. These serve as Public Service Announcements to reinforce behavior change with the recipients.

07. Regularly scheduled push message surveys are sent to local leaders to monitor spare parts needs and water filter troubleshooting.

08. Local spare parts are made available through local small business distributors.
